HANDSPUN LEICESTER LONGWOOL SHAWL
This lace border on this shawl is a traditional Shetland pattern called, “Crown of Glory,” and was made from start to finish, right here on our farm. All of the wool was hand washed, hand carded, hand spun, and hand knit, resulting in a sustainable and heirloom quality product.
Made from one of our favorite breeds of sheep here on the farm, the Leicester Longwool, which is one of the breeds of sheep that George Washington kept, personally. The Leicester Longwool sheep originated from the area of their namesake, Leicestershire County, England. Making items out of this wool is a way we can preserve these rare & heritage breeds for future generations.
The last photo is of one of our favorite Leicester ewes, Arlette, shown with her lamb.
